Mortgage Room Makeover Contest terms and conditions

Contest

Meridian Credit Union Ltd. (“Meridian”), in collaboration with Sebastian Clovis, is offering a chance to win one of two (2) room makeovers valued up to $50,000 Canadian dollars, inclusive of HST (“the Contest”).

Contest Period

The Contest is valid as of 8:00 AM (EST) April 7, 2025, and is valid until 11:59 PM (EST) June 30, 2025 (the “Contest Period”) after which time, the Contest will be closed and no further entries will be accepted. Meridian reserves the right to extend or shorten the Contest Period at its sole discretion.

Eligibility

To be eligible to win the Contest:

  1. you must be a legal resident of Ontario, Canada.
  2. you must be 18 years of age, or older, at the time of participation.
  3. the room to be made over must be in your primary residence (primary residence has the meaning given to it by the Canada Revenue Agency) and it must be located within 300km of Toronto.

How to Enter

No purchase or account necessary. Participants may enter the contest in one of two ways. You can earn a maximum of one (1) entry by following one (1) of these two (2) Entry methods.

Option 1:

  1. complete a new, refinance, or renewal mortgage application for a residential mortgage on your primary residence using an eligible mortgage product (“Eligible Mortgage Product”) with Meridian, online or in-branch during the Contest Period.
  1. Only the following mortgage products are considered an Eligible Mortgage Product for the purposes of this Contest:
  1. 3 Year Fixed Closed Mortgage
  2. 3 Year Fixed Closed High Ratio Mortgage
  3. 5 Year Fixed Closed Mortgage
  4. 5 Year Fixed Closed High Ratio Mortgage
  5. 5 Year Variable Closed Mortgage
  6. 5 Year Variable Closed High Ratio Mortgage
  1. Next, enter by submitting the Contest form which will be sent via email to those who successfully complete their Meridian mortgage application. This email will direct to the contest entry landing page, where first name, last name, email address and 2-5 sentences explaining what room you would like to makeover and how the $50,000 and Sebastian Clovis could help make that happen if selected as the winner of this Contest (maximum 150 words) must be provided.

Option 2:

  1. Mail in: to obtain one (1) Entry in the Contest without completing a mortgage application, print your first name, last name, email, telephone, Member number (if applicable) and complete mailing address (including postal code) on a plain white piece of paper and mail in (in an envelope with sufficient Canadian postage) along with a 100-word or more unique and original essay about "The room you’d like to makeover and how the $50,000 prize, along with Sebastian Clovis' expertise, could transform your space to make it more useable, comfortable, or meaningful to you" to the following address: Meridian Credit Union, 3280 Bloor Street West, Centre Tower, 7th Floor, Toronto, ON M8X 2X3 (the "Request"). Upon receipt of a valid Request submitted and received in accordance with these Rules, you will be eligible to receive one (1) Entry in the Contest. To be eligible, the Request you submit must (i) be received in an envelope bearing sufficient Canadian postage (multiple requests in the same envelope will be void and there is a limit to one (1) Entry per household), and (ii) be postmarked during the Contest Period and received no later than 11:59pm on June 30, 2025.

All entries and requests must be complete and are subject to verification by Meridian, in its sole discretion.

Employees, directors and officers of Meridian and its representatives, agents, advertising or promotional agencies, and anyone else involved in the development or execution of the Contest (collectively, the “Contest Parties”) and all members of any such director’s, officer’s, employee’s, representative’s, and agent’s household or immediate family (regardless of where they live) are not eligible to win the Contest. Immediate family means spouse, mother, father, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters and each of their spouses.

Accept Contest Rules

Participation constitutes each entrant's full and unconditional agreement to be legally bound by the Contest Rules (the “Rules”). The decisions made by Meridian with regards to all matters of this Contest are final and binding.

Contest Prize

There are two (2) prizes available to be won. Each prize consists of one of two (2) up to fifty-thousand-dollar amounts (2 x $50,000.00 CAD) to be used for a home room makeover; each home room makeover would be completed by Sebastian Clovis and any work to be done on the room would be carried out by Sebastian Clovis’ construction company; funds for the room makeover would be paid directly from Meridian to Sebastian Clovis or his construction company (the “Prize”). Prize funds can be used for construction costs including, but not limited to labour, materials, remediation and plans, however the end product must be a complete room makeover.

The potential winner’s room makeover cannot exceed the value of fifty thousand Canadian dollars ($50,000 CAD), which includes HST. Room makeovers that can be completed as part of this campaign include: a laundry room, bathroom, living or dining room, bedroom, office, kitchen or other room within the winner’s primary residence. The total amount of funds for the room makeover shall be paid to Sebastian Clovis or his construction company when the room makeover is scheduled to begin. If there are any remaining funds from the Prize once the room makeover has been completed, those funds will be donated to the Reframe program. Reframe is a charitable program that was created in partnership with Community Builders. It’s designed to help support individuals facing economic barriers acquire the skills, work experience, and financial confidence they need for employment in the skilled trades industry. The Prize funds will not be paid by Meridian to any other service provider to provide the room makeover services. The Prize is not transferable and must be accepted as awarded and is not redeemable and cannot be exchanged for cash. Should the winner refuse to accept his/her/their Prize after it is awarded by Meridian to the winner, Meridian and Sebastian Clovis will be released from any obligation related to the Prize.

All winners assume any and all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, by entering, and participating in this Contest, or the use or redemption of a prize. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and have no cash value. Prizes or any portion of a prize cannot be combined with other discounts, promotions or special offers. Meridian reserves the right to substitute an alternate prize of equal or greater value if an advertised prize is unavailable at the time of award.

Entry Limit

There is a limit of one (1) Request and therefore Entry per household during the Contest Period (regardless of the method of entry). If it is discovered by Meridian (using any evidence or other information made available to or otherwise discovered by Meridian) that any person has attempted to: (i) exceed any of the limits stated in these Rules; and/or (ii) use multiple names, identities, email addresses and/or any automated, macro, script, robotic or other system(s) or program(s) to enter or otherwise participate in or to disrupt this Contest; then they may be disqualified from the Contest in the sole and absolute discretion of Meridian. Your eligibility for the contest may be rejected if in Meridian’s sole and absolute discretion, your entry is: 1. not fully completed with all required information and/or 2. not submitted and received in accordance with these Rules during the Contest Period. Meridian is not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, delayed, incomplete or incompatible Entries (all of which are void).

Verification

All Entries are subject to verification at any time and for any reason. Meridian reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to require proof of identity and/or eligibility (in a form acceptable to Meridian – including, without limitation, government issued photo identification): (i) for the purposes of verifying an individual’s eligibility to participate in this Contest; (ii) for the purposes of verifying the eligibility and/or legitimacy of any Entry or other information submitted (or purportedly submitted) for the purposes of this Contest; and/or (iii) for any other reason Meridian deems necessary, in its sole and absolute discretion, for the purposes of administering this Contest in accordance with these Rules. Failure to provide such proof to the reasonable satisfaction of Meridian within the timeline specified by Meridian may result in disqualification in the sole and absolute discretion of Meridian.

Odds

Chances of winning are dependent upon the total number of eligible Entries within the Contest Period.

Skill-testing Question

Selected Entrants will be required, as a condition of winning a prize, to correctly answer, without assistance of any kind, the Meridian’s time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question to be administered by Meridian by phone.

Winner Selection

On August 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. EST at Meridian’s corporate head office, 3280 Bloor Street West, Centre Tower, 7th Floor, Toronto, ON M8X 2X3, two (2) eligible Entries will be selected as the potential Prize winners from all eligible Entries received during the Contest Period.  The winners shall be chosen by Meridian from the group of eligible entrants who met all entry and Contest requirements and are based on the responses the entrant provides on their entry. Meridian, or an employee, agent or other representative of Meridian, will select from all eligible entries received before Contest End Date and select the potential winners (Selected Entrants). Selected Entrants will be deemed winners if they meet all of the eligibility criteria set out in these Contest Rules. If a Selected Entrant does not meet the eligibility criteria, he/she will be disqualified and will not receive a prize and another entrant will be selected from the remaining eligible entries. Before being declared a winner, Selected Entrants will be required to: (i) correctly answer Meridian’s skill-testing question; (ii) sign and return the Meridian’s Declaration of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release form (Winner Release); and (iii) comply with all other Contest Rules, all in the sole discretion of Meridian.

Selected Entrants will be notified within two, (2) business days of the contest draw and will be contacted by phone and/or email provided at the time of entry into the Contest. Up to three attempts will be made to contact Selected Entrants within five (5) business days following the draw. A Selected Entrant that does not or cannot accept a prize may forfeit their prize and a new Selected Entrant will be selected by Meridian, in the Meridian’s sole discretion. A signed copy of the Meridian’s Winner Release must be received by Meridian no later than August 22, 2025. Meridian is not responsible for the failure for any reason whatsoever of a Selected Entrant to receive notification or for Meridian to receive a Selected Entrant’s response.

Disputes regarding identity of entrant: If the identity of a Selected Entrant is disputed, the entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the individual assigned to the email address entered at the time of entry (“Authorized Account Holder”). Each Selected Entrant may be required to provide proof that he/she is the Authorized Account Holder associated with a selected entry.

Release and Indemnification

All winners must sign the Meridian’s Winner Release to: (i) confirm compliance with all Contest Rules; (ii) agree to accept prizes as awarded; (iii) release, discharge and hold harmless Meridian, its departments and agencies, related and affiliated companies, subsidiaries, advertising and promotional agencies, counsel, marketing partners, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, shareholders, successors, sponsors, partners, licensees, subsidiaries, agents, artists, advisors, assignees, and all others associated with the administration, development and execution of the Contest (“Released Parties”) from and against any and all manner of action, cause of action, claim or demand, loss or injury, use or misuse of a Prize or any travel related thereto, and the use of entries by Meridian, suit, debt, covenant, contract, including legal fees and expenses, whatsoever, including but not limited to, claims based on negligence, breach of contract and fundamental breach, failure of any third-party contractor or supplier used in connection with any aspect of the Contest to perform or deliver any goods or services, any act of God or any other event beyond the Released Parties’ control, any dissatisfaction of any kind by a winner with any aspect of the Contest or any prize, liability for physical injury, death, or property damage which the entrants, guests, their heirs, successors or assigns have, might have or could have suffered, by reason of or arising out of the entrant’s participation in the Contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise by the entrant of prizes as awarded; and (iv) indemnify the Released Parties against any loss, damage or expense, including legal fees, that any of the Released Parties may suffer or incur as a result of any non-compliance by entrants with any of the Contest Rules or participation in the Contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise by an entrant of a prize, and the use of entries by Meridian.

Meridian is not responsible for: (i) incorrect or inaccurate entry information that may affect a person’s ability to participate in the Contest or be awarded a prize, including but not limited to human error, technical malfunctions, lost or delayed entries for any reason, mail failures, omission, or any combination thereof, and entries that fail to fully comply with these Contest Rules; (ii) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (iii) lost, incomplete, delayed, mutilated or misdirected entries or Winner Releases; (iv) injury or damage to entrants’ computers or to any other individual’s computer related to or resulting from participating in, or downloading any material regarding the Contest or accepting a prize; (v) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize, including any related travel and the use of entries by Sponsor; (vi) the security or privacy of information transmitted via computer networks or for breaches of privacy due to interference by third-party computer hackers or otherwise; or (vii) late, lost, misdirected or unsuccessful efforts to notify a potential winner.

Personal Data

All personal information submitted in relation to the Contest will be handled in accordance with Canadian privacy laws and Meridian’s privacy statement see (Privacy Statement | Meridian). Your personal information will only be used in connection with the Contest, Meridian or your mortgage. If you are selected as a winner, Meridian will disclose online and through social media that you have won this Contest. Unless you otherwise agree, your personal information will not be used for any other purpose and will not be shared with anyone else.

Publicity

By participating in the Contest, entrants consent to the use of their name, address, email address, postal code, telephone number, social media handle(s), comments and image, whether on videotape, photograph or any other means, including before and after photographs and video of the room that was made over for the administration of the Contest or any publicity carried out by the Sponsor, without further notice or compensation.

Conditions of Participation

If applicable, winning entrants agree to participate in one of Meridian’s “Member Story” films, the content of which shall be shared externally on various channels including but not limited to Television, Meridian’s website and through social and other digital media, without further notice or compensation to the winning entrant.

By participating in this Contest, all contest entrants agree to comply with all applicable laws, regulations and these Terms and Conditions.

Meridian reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process or violates these Official Rules. Meridian reserves the right to, and without further prior notice and at any time, remove participants or terminate this Contest, in whole or in part, or modify the Contest in any way, should any factor interfere with its proper conduct or impair the administration, security, integrity and fairness of play (as intended) of the Contest. A person who attempts to undermine the legitimate operation of this promotion or to alter or damage a website may be subject to civil and/or criminal penalties and fines; and Meridian reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law.

The decisions of Meridian with regards to all matters of this Contest are final and binding. The Contest Prize cannot be combined with any other promotional offers unless Meridian, at its sole discretion, defines otherwise.

Other Conditions

Meridian reserves the right to terminate or amend this Contest at any time and in any way, without prior notice to entrants. Without limiting the foregoing, if, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned for any reason, Meridian reserves the right to cancel the Contest and conduct a draw from all previously received eligible entries received by the Contest End Date.

Dispute Resolution

Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to this Contest, including any question regarding its existence, interpretation, validity, breach, or termination, shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of Toronto, Ontario. By participating in the Contest, the contest entrant irrevocably submits to the jurisdiction of such courts and waives any objection to the venue or jurisdiction of such courts.

Meridian is not liable for any loss or damage arising from or in connection with the Contest, including but not limited to direct, indirect, or consequential losses.

Intellectual Property

All intellectual property, including but not limited to trademarks, logos, designs, promotional materials, web pages, source codes, images, drawings, illustrations, slogans and representations are owned by Meridian. All rights reserved. Unauthorized copying or use of any of Meridian’s intellectual property without the express written consent of Meridian is strictly prohibited.

Contest Organizer

The Contest is organized by Meridian Credit Union, 3280 Bloor Street West, Centre Tower, 7th Floor, Toronto, ON M8X 2X3.

You agree that you have read and understood the Contest rules and agree to be bound by them. Any notice offered by us with respect to the Contest Prize is deemed to be provided on the day it is posted on our website.
