GoodLot Brewing
0:03 GoodLot farm was grown out of the desire to leave the city,
0:07 and then that has morphed into building this great brewery which has become a community hub.
0:12 My name is Phil Winters. I am the co-founder of GoodLot Farm and Farmstead Brewing.
0:18 My name is Gail Winters. I am also co-founder of GoodLot Farm and Farmstead Brewing.
0:24 We embrace regenerative farming here on our farm.
0:27 These principles align really well with the values that we carry.
0:31 Some of those principles are about feeding the soil. Keeping it as healthy as possible.
0:36 Supporting biodiversity with the ultimate goal of sequestering as much carbon from the sky into the soil.
0:43 And yeah, every element of this farm from the brewing to the farm to the food truck has all been based around a zero waste system.
0:50 We’re trying to challenge the craft beer industry to do better.
0:54 From the social aspect and the environmental aspect. By leading by example.
1:00 There’s still a few things that we want to do and that’s important to us sort of moving forward.
1: 06 The Meridian Small Business Big Impact Award was something we actually were not aware of.
1:10 A friend and former employee of our team banks with Meridian in St. Thomas and she was in her branch and saw the award
1:18 and so she submitted it on our behalf without telling us.
1:21 We got notified on a Friday that we actually won first place in the environmental category for the Small Business Big Impact Award.
1:30 And we didn’t believe it. It was a huge moment of celebration for us all.
1:33 Literally the whole place was like having fireworks here. We were so mind blown.
1:37 And the experience has put some wind in our sails honestly.
1:42 There are so many initiative that we’ve been trying to afford and haven’t been able to. And so the funds we received from Meridian have allowed us to dream these final steps.
1:51 I just want to say thank you to Meridian
1:55 for this amazing opportunity. I’m so thankful and grateful.
2:00 I’m excited to see where our future will go in the next ten to fifteen years.
Last year's top winner from the Small Business Big Impact Awards in our environment category, GoodLot Farm and Farmstead Brewing company is an organic hop farm and solar-powered brewery in the Ontario Greenbelt. They are organic, regenerative carbon farmers, working to sequester more CO2 into their soil than they emit.
