Video transcript: How to send an INTERAC e-Transfer®

Use the Meridian mobile banking app to send an Interac e-Transfer to anyone, anytime. It’s easy, safe, and secure. Let’s go through the process step by step.

Step 1: Sign into the Meridian mobile banking app

Once you’ve signed into the Meridian mobile banking app, select the “Transfers” tab in the bottom bar.

Step 2: Set up your Interac e-Transfer profile

On this screen you’ll find three transfer options; “Between accounts,” “Send money” and “Request money.” Choose “Send Money” and complete your Interac e-Transfer profile

You can update your email address and mobile number, and choose how you’d like to receive notifications, either by email, phone, or text.

After reviewing your profile, select the "Save Changes" button.

Step 3: Manage contacts

To send or request money from someone, you’ll need to add them as a contact in the app. To do this, select the “Add a contact” button listed in the “Transfers” tab. Alternatively, you can select the three-dot icon in the top right corner.

For new contacts, you’ll need to add a name, email address, and phone number in “Contact details.” You’ll also have an option to set up a “Security question” for your contact. The security question and answer are used whenever you send an e-Transfer to this specific contact. In the “Security question” field, type any question you’d like, then type the answer in the “Security answer” field and again in the “Confirm security answer” field.

When you’re done, tap the “Continue” button to add your new contact. You can review the contact details and select the yellow “Add contact” button when you’re finished.

You can edit a contact’s information or security question any time by swiping left on the contact’s name or selecting the edit or delete icon in their profile.

Step 4: Send an Interac e-Transfer

Once you’ve chosen a contact to send money to, their profile will appear along with all the necessary fields. Choose the account that you want to send money from, enter the amount you want to send, and choose a security question that only the recipient can answer.

Tip: If the person you’re sending money to has auto-deposit set up, they won’t need to answer the security question to deposit funds. You can learn more about auto-deposit in another mobile app guide video.

Finally, you have the option to attach a message. For example, a description of what the money is for, or any other message that you’d like the recipient to see. Type your message in the “Message” field, then tap the “Continue” button.

Step 5: Review and confirm your Interac e-Transfer

Review all the e-Transfer details before confirming and sending.

Depending on the type of account you have, the Interac e-Transfer may have a fee associated with it. If there is a fee, it will be shown here.

You can edit any of the details of the e-Transfer by selecting the “Back” arrow button in the top left corner. If all the information appears correct, tap the “Send money” button to send your e-Transfer.

Your e-Transfer has now been sent. It can take up to 30 minutes for the notification to reach the recipient.
