March break getaways and events the whole family will enjoy!


March Break is just around the corner - March 12 for those in Ontario and March 6 for Quebec school children. It’s time to start planning to keep your kids busy and make lasting family memories with these five fun events and getaways for the whole family. Whether you’re looking for indoor activities or outdoor adventures, there’s lot’s to do this March Break!

1. March Break Family Fun Near Alliston, Ontario
The Nottawasawa Inn Resort & Conference Centre in pretty Alliston is a short trip from the GTA and offers a wide variety of family attractions. Get a March Break Family Fun Pass to save on favourite activities and stay for a few days.  Amenities at Nottawasaga include an indoor water park with slide, indoor mini-golf and games area, plus skiing.
In the mood for a March Break Maple Syrup Festival? Enjoy a 42 kilometre scenic drive to Island Lake Conservation Area near Orangeville where you can enjoy maple syrup displays, activities, and sweet treats.

2. Head West to Hamilton, Ontario for a March Break Getaway
If you’re based in the GTA and want a short March Break getaway, consider visiting Hamilton. The city has many family-friendly activities, even in the slushy spring weather.

Enjoy indoor family time at the historic and beautiful Dundurn National Historic Site, known locally as Dundurn Castle. This March Break, children are invited to dress up in period costume pieces at the Castle – a great photo opportunity for parents! Check out the Children’s Museum for March Break Madness where kids can enjoy hands-on art, engineering and environmental activities.

3. Nearby Niagara Falls, Ontario – Close and Cheap
Niagara Falls is spectacular any time of year, and March break is a great time to visit this family-friendly destination. In addition to marvelling at the Falls themselves, be sure to stop by Bird Kingdom, billed as the world’s “largest indoor free flying aviary”, including over 500 exotic birds.  Over at the Niagara Falls History Museum, kids and parents alike can enjoy the March Break Bubbleology Show, where Miss T the Bubble Queen mixes magic and science to explore the world of bubbles, followed by a scavenger hunt and movie daily.

4. Montreal During March Break
Whether your family calls Montreal home or you’re visiting from Ontario, Montreal offers many spring activities for people of all ages. Get in the mood for warmer weather with a visit to the Botanical Garden, where you’ll see thousands of butterflies and learn how to create a butterfly garden.
Ready for a trip out of town? Visit the Sucrerie de la Montagne for a family maple syrup experience. Hayrides, live music, maple taffy tasting, and hands on Sugaring Off activities are fun and educational, giving visitors a taste of Quebec maple syrup traditions.

5. Enjoy Historic Quebec City This Spring Break
Beautiful Quebec City is holds a special charm in March. Dress warmly to enjoy the many unique outdoor opportunities, like the Plains of Abraham at the Parc des Champs-de-Bataille. Participate in simple (but fun) cold weather activities like skiing or snowshoeing on the large outdoor fields. Then warm up indoors enjoying museum exhibits of Canadian history. Or take a quick tour of the Hotel De Glace, the only hotel in North America that’s made entirely of ice.
If you prefer an out-of-town adventure, a quick 20-minute drive from Quebec City you’ll find Valcartier Vacation Village, home to the new Bora Park, an indoor waterpark for all ages. Or bundle up to enjoy 35 outdoor slides, a skating path, and snow rafting.
